Bookshape

Description from the designer:
Bookshape is a book-containing-object (its dimensions are 60x60x12 cm) where the spaces for storing the books look like the casts of an unpredictable series of books.

Bookshape consists of a series of acrylic layers. The inner ones are white opal and the exterior ones are transparent and colored.

All of these layers are laser-cut in order to get a bookcase whose shape is defined by the books, because the original idea was that the content had to give shape to its container.

The wavy shelf from Sang Hoon Kim is designed to express the beautifulness of space division. The designer gave the geometrically vertical and horizontal divisions to composed of seemingly unstable curves, in order to make the audiences feel stability from an instable furniture.

First saw it, I immediately remembered with the amazing cabinet by Ontwerpduo that was inspired by Alice in Wonderland below, but this is something different.

There are so many bookshelves / storage / wall decoration units designs that was inspired by the shape of a tree. The tree branch has inspired many designers to create furniture that is beautiful and versatile.

For example see Tree Bookshelf from Designartist Shawn’s, the design is comes with initial concept ‘A tree becomes a book becomes a tree’.

and the most recently we found is Tree Branch Bookshelf from French designer Olivier Dolle. The initial idea was slightly different from the two designs above, although it still remains inspired by tree branch. The idea was to beautify a wall decoration by combining wall decorations with Tree Branch Bookshelf.

Tonic Sideboard-Bookcase can be installed without screws or the use of tools. Designed by Reinhard Dienes, Tonic can be used in two different positions; horizontal as a Sideboard, or vertical as a Bookcase. To achieve this change the legs are simply taken out of the sockets and replaced in the desired position. This transformation allows Tonic to adapt itself to changing living situations and desires.
