From the architects “The Tsai Residence is a countryhouse designed for two young art collectors. The design reflects their request for a simple and abstract looking piece, almost without scale sitting on top of the site, which is located two hours upstate from New York City.”
From the architects “A large and busy family required extensive alterations to their 1970′s house which had small dark spaces with unsatisfactory relationships to the existing outdoor areas of swimming pool and tennis court……It wraps around the north of the house to create an intermediary space between the inside and outside of both levels, and also connect the upper and lower levels. The outdoor fireplace is treated as a sculptural element and defines the edge of the exterior room. A new spa pool, retiled swimming pool, terraces and landscaping create a relaxed environment for energetic family life……”
From the architects “A series of buildings are configured on a 10,000 square foot lot creating a protected inner courtyard. Folded planes define the roof and walls of the two story main house. Strategically placed windows frame views and perforate the building in a seemingly haphazard way. The pool house and guest wing offer restrained counterpoints in the form of modernist boxes mirroring each other at either end of the open outdoor space.”
Carriage House is located in New York and has been renovated by FDM Architects. From the architects “The renovation of this 1880′s carriage house became an exploration of the public and private spaces of a bachelor life in both its perception and reality.
A first floor swimming pool and gym were transformed into a sybaritic space ar once gym and cocktail lounge. The chandelier, sitting group, and stucco wall mediate the dual characteristics. A voile curtain adds a layer the extends of the gym beyond.”
